Mark These 2027 Health Insurance Dates

You don’t have to memorize everything. These are the dates that matter most.

Key Date 1
NOVEMBER 1, 2026
Open Enrollment Begins

You can begin applying for, renewing, or changing Marketplace coverage for 2027.

IMPORTANT
Key Date 2
DECEMBER 15, 2026
Jan 1 Deadline

Enroll in or change your Marketplace plan by December 15 for coverage that can begin January 1, 2027.

Key Date 3
JANUARY 1, 2027
New Coverage Year

Coverage generally begins January 1 for people who enrolled by the December 15 deadline and completed required premium payments.

Key Date 4
JANUARY 15, 2027
Open Enrollment Ends

This is the current final Marketplace Open Enrollment deadline. After this date, most people need a qualifying life event or another qualifying circumstance to enroll or change plans.

IMPORTANT:

Waiting until January does not generally provide January 1 coverage. If January 1 coverage is important to you, December 15 is the deadline to pay close attention to.

Even If You Like Your Current Plan, Check It Again for 2027

Health insurance plans are not something you should automatically assume will stay exactly the same from one year to the next.

1. MONTHLY PREMIUM

What you pay each month may change.

2. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Marketplace savings are based on factors including your expected household income and household information for the year you are applying for coverage.

3. DOCTOR NETWORK

Doctors, hospitals, specialists, and medical facilities participating in a plan’s network may change.

4. PRESCRIPTION COVERAGE

Drug formularies, covered medications, tiers, copays, and restrictions can change.

5. DEDUCTIBLES & COPAYS

What you pay when you use your insurance may be different even if the plan appears similar.

6. PLAN AVAILABILITY

Your current plan may change, be replaced, or may no longer be available in the same form.

The cheapest monthly premium is not always the best plan.

Your doctors, prescriptions, deductible, copays, expected medical needs, and total potential costs matter too.

Before You Automatically Renew, Take 10 Minutes to Review Your Coverage

Some Marketplace consumers may be automatically re-enrolled if they take no action. But automatic enrollment does not necessarily mean your current plan is still your best option.

Before renewing, review:

✓Your expected 2027 household income
✓Who needs coverage in your household
✓Your preferred doctors and specialists
✓Hospitals or medical facilities you want access to
✓Prescription medications you regularly take
✓Your monthly premium
✓Your deductible
✓Primary care and specialist copays
✓Urgent care and emergency room costs
✓Maximum out-of-pocket costs
✓Any major healthcare needs you expect during 2027

A few minutes of reviewing your options could prevent surprises after January 1.

What You Can Do Right Now

You may not be able to finalize your 2027 enrollment yet, but you can prepare now.

1

ESTIMATE YOUR 2027 INCOME

Think about what you realistically expect your household income to be during 2027.

2

REVIEW YOUR HOUSEHOLD

Make sure you know who will need health insurance coverage next year.

3

MAKE A DOCTOR LIST

Write down the doctors, specialists, hospitals, and clinics that are important to you.

4

MAKE A MEDICATION LIST

Write down prescription names and dosages so they can be checked against plan formularies.

5

WATCH FOR RENEWAL NOTICES

Pay attention to notices from your current insurance company and the Health Insurance Marketplace.

6

REVIEW BEFORE YOU RENEW

Once 2027 options are available, compare your current coverage with the options available for the new year.

A Lot Can Change in One Year

Your health insurance needs may be different now than they were when you last enrolled.

If something has changed, tell us during your coverage review. Those details can affect which options make the most sense for you.
